About Quail Unlimited

Quail Unlimited (QU) was a national quail conservation organization founded around 1981 in Edgefield, South Carolina, by Jerry Allen. For about three decades it was one of the main voices for bobwhite quail and quail hunters. It raised money through local chapters and banquets and paid for habitat projects as quail populations fell across the Southeast and Midwest. QU also hosted a well-known celebrity quail hunt fundraiser in southwest Georgia for more than 20 years. In 2010 it reported between 28,000 and 29,000 members.

In late October 2010, QU announced that it would move its national headquarters from Edgefield to Albany, Georgia, on an eight-acre parcel of land donated by the Phoebe Foundation. The move came as the group faced serious financial and internal problems. In early February 2013, President Bill Bowles announced that Quail Unlimited would stop operating immediately. Its website was redirected to Quail Forever, which acquired QU’s mailing list, and the QU board urged members to support Quail Forever as the future of quail conservation. Quail Unlimited no longer exists.
