About Quail Forever
Quail Forever is the quail conservation division of Pheasants Forever, the upland habitat organization founded in 1982. Pheasants Forever launched Quail Forever in August 2005 because quail populations and quail habitat had been declining for decades across much of the country. Its first chapter was the Gateway Chapter in St. Louis. Quail Forever uses the Pheasants Forever model: local chapters raise money and decide how to spend it on habitat projects, youth outreach and public land access in their own areas. The two organizations share leadership and a national office in the St. Paul, Minnesota, area.
For bird hunters, Quail Forever is a major force in habitat work and farm policy. It has supported federal Conservation Reserve Program practices such as State Acres for Wildlife Enhancement and Habitat Buffers for Upland Birds. By its 10th anniversary in 2015, it reported more than 15,000 members and 152 chapters in 27 states, and more than 500,000 acres of habitat improved. When Quail Unlimited shut down in 2013, its board recommended that members join Quail Forever, and Quail Forever acquired the former group’s mailing list.
