About Jake Wiskerchen
Jake Wiskerchen is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a co-founder and clinical leader of Zephyr Wellness, a locally owned counseling agency in Reno, Nevada, that offers outpatient counseling for individuals, couples, groups and families. He is also a trustee of Walk The Talk America (WTTA), the nonprofit founded by firearms industry veteran Michael Sodini to bring the firearm community and the mental health community together to reduce firearm suicides and negligence.
Wiskerchen works to help therapists better understand gun owners and firearm culture. On July 25, 2019, Zephyr Wellness and WTTA held the first “At the Intersection of Guns and Mental Health” seminar at Reno Guns & Range, introducing mental health professionals to gun culture through a workshop that included safety instruction from trainer Rob Pincus and supervised handgun shooting. The aim was to open dialogue between practitioners and gun owners, and attendees asked for more classes. He has continued that work through podcasts and writing on firearms and other topics often treated as taboo in mental health care.
