About Gemtech
Gemtech, short for Gemini Technologies, is one of the best-known names in American firearm suppressors. The brand traces its roots to 1976 and was incorporated in Boise, Idaho, in 1993, later moving its headquarters to Eagle, Idaho. From 1994 to 2016, GSL Technology of Jackson, Michigan, designed and manufactured many Gemtech suppressors. The line grew to cover rimfire, pistol, submachine gun and rifle calibers, from the GM-22 and GM-45 to rifle cans for 5.56mm, .300 Blackout and .300 Win Mag, plus models built for open-bolt submachine guns.
Gemtech also helped shape the suppressor market beyond its own products. In 2011 it developed its own subsonic .22 LR ammunition made for suppressed shooting, and in 2013 it began producing supersonic and subsonic .300 Blackout loads. The company was instrumental in forming the American Suppressor Association, the trade group that works to remove barriers to suppressor ownership and promotes hunting and shooting with suppressors. In July 2017, Smith & Wesson acquired Gemtech and moved production to Massachusetts, with the first Smith & Wesson-built Gemtech suppressors shown at SHOT Show 2018. The brand remains active under Smith & Wesson ownership.
