About Frank Proctor
Frank Proctor is a U.S. Army Special Forces veteran and competitive shooter who runs a full-time training company teaching performance pistol and carbine skills, known as Way of the Gun. According to a 2020 profile in USPSA’s FrontSight magazine, he served more than 20 years in the military, the last 16 in Special Forces, after starting out as an Army mechanic. In 2004 he attended the Special Forces Advanced Urban Combat Course, and he later worked as assistant and then primary instructor for his unit’s combat marksmanship, close-quarters battle, breaching and sniper programs.
Proctor shot his first practical shooting match in 2007 and, by training almost daily, reached USPSA Grand Master in Limited Division within about two years, at one point ranking fourth on the division’s top 20 list. In 2012 he began training full time. His courses, including Performance Marksmanship and Movement Dynamics for pistol and carbine and the two-day Fundamentals of Fast pistol class, break shooting into visual processing, control, mechanics, movement and mental control, and draw students from law enforcement, the military and armed citizens. For gun owners, his teaching is a well-known link between competition skill and defensive and combat shooting.
