About Craig DeLuz

Craig DeLuz is a Sacramento-based legislative advocate and communicator who has spent years representing gun owners and firearms retailers at the California State Capitol. Before moving into firearms advocacy he was a senior legislative staffer, serving as Legislative Director for Assemblyman Tim Leslie and as Deputy Chief of Staff for Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries. In March 2013 the California Association of Federal Firearms Licensees (Cal-FFL), the state’s firearms industry trade association, announced his hiring as its Legislative Advocate, representing industry and consumer interests before the Legislature.

DeLuz also became a public face of the Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC), serving as a spokesperson during California’s heavy gun control legislative sessions of 2016 and 2017. In that role he spoke for FPC on measures such as SB 464, a gun store bill Governor Jerry Brown vetoed, and AB 7, which expanded the state’s open carry ban and was signed in October 2017. His work illustrates how industry associations and grassroots groups coordinate on legislative strategy in one of the most restrictive states for gun owners.
