About Steve Urvan

Steven F. Urvan is the founder of GunBroker.com, one of the largest online marketplaces for firearms and shooting gear. He launched the site on February 19, 1999, after eBay began restricting gun sales, giving buyers and sellers a dedicated auction platform that works with the federal licensing system: firearms bought on the site are shipped to a licensed dealer, who handles the transfer and background check. For collectors and everyday gun owners, GunBroker became a primary place to find rare, used and hard-to-locate firearms.

Urvan ran the company until AMMO, Inc. acquired it in 2021 in a deal valued at about $240 million. At closing, GunBroker reported about $60 million in revenue and 6 million registered users. In 2023 Urvan filed a lawsuit claiming he had been misled in the sale. In March 2025, AMMO, Inc. sold its ammunition manufacturing assets to Olin Winchester and renamed itself Outdoor Holding Company, and on May 30, 2025, as part of a settlement, Urvan was appointed chairman and CEO of the company, putting him back in charge of the marketplace he founded.
