About Dr. John Edeen

John Edeen, MD, is a Columbia University-trained pediatric orthopedic surgeon practicing in San Antonio, Texas, and the Membership Director of Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership (DRGO). DRGO, founded in 1994 by Dr. Timothy Wheeler and operated as a program of the Second Amendment Foundation, works to counter bias against gun owners in medical literature and to challenge flawed firearms research. Dr. Edeen joined DRGO’s leadership team when the organization moved to a shared leadership structure on January 1, 2017.

A Navy veteran whose service included time aboard the USS Peleliu and a deployment to Somalia, Dr. Edeen is also a Range Master and firearms instructor certified by the NRA and the Massad Ayoob Group. He speaks regularly on medical bias against the Second Amendment, red flag laws and evidence-based policy, including a presentation at the 2019 Gun Rights Policy Conference and an interview on The Forge of Freedom podcast recorded at the NRA Annual Meeting in Houston. DRGO also supports 2ADoc.com, a directory that helps gun owners find firearm-friendly health care providers.
