About San Diego County Gun Owners
San Diego County Gun Owners (SDCGO) is a nonpartisan political action committee that works only on Second Amendment issues and only in San Diego County, California. It was announced in October 2015, with Michael Schwartz as executive director. The founding goal was to hold city and county officials accountable at the local level, and the group launched a website that rated local officials with thumbs up, thumbs down or undecided, backed by a campaign fund. SDCGO endorses only local candidates, such as school board, city council, mayor, county supervisors and sheriff, and publishes a voter guide.
For gun owners in one of the most restrictive states in the country, SDCGO shows how much can be done at the county level. RECOIL reports that the group runs new-shooter programs, monthly Shooting Socials, a women-focused program on buying a first firearm, training and concealed carry permits, the weekly Gun Owners Radio show, and an annual Second Amendment Celebration Dinner. SDCGO has been a plaintiff in five lawsuits alongside Firearms Policy Coalition. A resolution it backed in Santee helped lead the county sheriff to change his concealed carry stance, and its model inspired Orange County Gun Owners and Inland Empire Gun Owners.
