About Hold My Guns

Hold My Guns is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that arranges voluntary, private, off-site firearm storage through a network of vetted federally licensed firearms dealers (FFLs). Founder Sarah Joy Albrecht, a certified Range Safety Officer and QPR Gatekeeper suicide-prevention instructor, started the organization after a young adult friend died by suicide with a firearm. She developed the program with Pennsylvania Second Amendment attorney Joshua Prince, who worked through the legal framework so that partner FFLs could offer storage lawfully. Owners can retrieve their firearms at any time, provided they can pass the standard ATF Form 4473 background check.

The model matters to gun owners because it offers a solution that keeps the decision with the owner, with no court order or government involvement. People use it during deployments, travel, moves, college, home emergencies, mental health crises in the household, or when fostering children. Storage numbers have grown quickly: RECOIL reported 118 firearms stored across eight FFL partners in 2023, up from five in 2022. Smith & Wesson donated $10,000, and the organization offers a “Personal Safety Plan” tool for people who want to plan ahead.
