– Created 1976

The International Practical Shooting Confederation is the world’s second largest shooting sport association and the largest and oldest within practical shooting.

affiliates over 100 regions from Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania

International Practical Shooting Confederation is the international confederation governing a type of practical pistol competition. The promotion of accuracy, power, and speed as three equal elements was the prime objective along with multiple targets, moving targets, targets that react when hit, penalty carrying no-shoot targets mixed-in or even partially covering shoot targets, obstacles, movement, competitive tactics, etc. to keep the shooters challenged and spectators entertained.

  • 1976 Paralympic Shooting made debut at the 1st Paralympic Games

  • 2020 = nine rifle & four pistol events
    both airguns and .22 caliber
  • 8 of 13 events are mixed gender
  • open to male and female athletes with physical disabilities
  •  governed by International Paralympic Committee (IPC)
  • 2019 Shooting was added to the program at the Para Pan American Championships (Lima, Peru)

United States Army Marksmanship Unit

established in March 1, 1956

  • at the direction of Dwight D. Eisenhower
  • with the mission of winning international competitions
  •  1964 Summer Olympics (Tokyo), the United States won seven medals in shooting, of which six were won by Army Marksmanship Unit members
  • unit’s mission expanded to facilitate Army recruiting
  •  2009 to 2012, the AMU maintained a constant presence in Afghanistan by deploying multiple marksmanship training teams
  • five competitive shooting sections
    – Service Rifle
    – Action Shooting
    – International Rifle
    – Service Pistol
    – Shotgun
  • Shotgun and International Rifle teams have earned 24 Olympic medals

National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association is the National Governing Body for most black powder shooting competitions in the USA. They hold a Spring National and Fall National at their home range in Friendship, Indiana, plus a Winter National in Phoenix, Arizona. They sanction events for black powder rifles, pistols, shotguns including primitive events.
