About Judi Wells
Judi Wells is a California gun owner, women’s shooting leader and Second Amendment advocate who describes herself as an “accidental activist.” Raised in Canada and California in a family that did not hunt or shoot, she first took shooting lessons around 2017, when she and her husband went through the process of buying a firearm in California. Encouraged by programs such as the NRA’s Winchester Marksman Program and an NSSF shooting camp where she trained with professional shooters including Dianna Muller, she went on to start a shooting group for women.
Wells later merged that group with A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League and became facilitator of its San Diego chapter, which by early 2021 had more than 70 women of varied ages and backgrounds. At Muller’s invitation she became California’s representative to The DC Project, educating lawmakers that gun rights are women’s rights. She also co-hosts Responsibly Armed Radio with instructor Tatiana Whitlock. Her path from newcomer to chapter leader reflects the rapid growth of women-focused training in states with some of the nation’s strictest gun laws.
