About Glock USA

GLOCK, Inc. is the American subsidiary of GLOCK Ges.m.b.H., the Austrian company Gaston Glock founded in 1963 in Deutsch-Wagram, near Vienna. The company first made consumer goods and military items such as field knives. Its polymer-frame Glock 17 pistol won the Austrian Army contract in 1982, and Norway, the first NATO country to adopt it, followed in 1984. The U.S. subsidiary was set up in Smyrna, Georgia, in 1985. It was the company’s first subsidiary and began by handling sales and assembling guns from imported parts.

Glock built its American business by courting law enforcement. By the end of 1990, about 2,000 U.S. police departments had adopted Glock pistols. The company now says more than 65 percent of federal, state and local agencies in the United States use its guns. For armed citizens, Glock pistols became a common reference point for carry and home-defense handguns. The Smyrna operation began full production in 2013, and the single-stack Glock 42 is made only in the United States. Gaston Glock died in December 2023 at age 94.
