About Marble Arms

Marble Arms is one of the oldest outdoor-equipment makers in the United States, founded in 1892 in Gladstone, Michigan, by Webster L. Marble (1854-1930), a surveyor and timber cruiser who held more than 60 patents. The company began with the Marble Universal Rifle Sight and grew into a maker of practical gear for hunters and woodsmen. The Marble Safety Axe Company, founded in 1898, produced the folding-guard Safety Pocket Axe, still sold today, and the firm’s Ideal hunting knife became a pattern for sporting and military knives through World War II. Compasses and waterproof match safes rounded out a catalog aimed at people who spent their lives outdoors.

For firearms collectors, Marble is best known for the Game Getter, a combination gun with a folding stock introduced in 1908 that paired a .22 rifle barrel with a shotgun barrel. The National Firearms Act of 1934 ended domestic sales of the short-barreled versions, and in 1939 federal authorities removed the 18-inch-barrel variant from NFA control, a rare example of the law’s early classification decisions. Original Game Getters are now Curios and Relics. As of 2026 Marble Arms remains in business in Gladstone, where it is known primarily for iron gun sights.
