About Precision Cartridge, Inc.
Precision Cartridge, Inc. (PCI) was a Hobart, Indiana, maker of remanufactured handgun ammunition, in business from 1986 until 2026. The company was owned and operated by Dennis G. Fossey, a former Hobart police officer with more than 40 years of reloading experience, who supervised production in the company’s shop. PCI loaded calibers including .380, 9mm, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, .357 SIG, 10mm, .40 S&W, .41, .44 and .45, using commercial Camdex loading machines of the type used by original manufacturers along with Dillon RL-1000 machines.
According to the company, every case was inspected, had its primer pocket reamed and was run through Scharch roller sizers to restore original case dimensions before loading. Components came from established suppliers, including Berry’s, Hornady XTP and Montana Gold bullets, Missouri Bullet cast lead bullets and Ervin Industries frangible bullets, with powders from makers such as Accurate, Hodgdon and Winchester, and the ammunition was backed by product liability insurance. For shooters, PCI was an example of the small, owner-run remanufacturers that offer shooters an affordable alternative to new factory ammunition for practice. The company announced that it would close effective April 1, 2026, when Fossey retired, thanking customers for 40 years of business.
