About the Kentucky Rifle Foundation
The Kentucky Rifle Foundation (KRF) is the educational arm of the Kentucky Rifle Association and a standalone 501(c)(3) nonprofit, funded by contributions, fundraising events and endowments. Its mission is “Preserving the Heritage of the Kentucky Rifle,” the long-barreled, rifled flintlock and percussion arm developed by gunsmiths in Pennsylvania and nearby colonies in the 1700s and carried by frontiersmen, riflemen of the American Revolution, and settlers moving west.
The foundation pursues that mission through scholarly books, public exhibitions and special projects. Its publications include Rifles of Colonial America, Pennsylvania Longrifles of Note, Moravian Gunmaking of the American Revolution, and Masterpieces of the American Longrifle: The Joe Kindig Jr. Collection. In 2014, KRF lent 20 American longrifles to the NRA National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Virginia, for the exhibit “The Kentucky Rifle, A Complete Narrative 1750-1850,” which traced the rifle from its pre-Revolutionary origins to the start of the Civil War. For gun owners interested in early American history, KRF’s books and exhibits are a valuable resource.
