About FFL123.com

FFL123.com is an online guide and membership site that walks would-be dealers through the process of obtaining a Federal Firearms License, with particular attention to running a licensed business from home. It was founded by Brandon Maddox of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, a pharmacist by training and a licensed firearms retailer. The FFL123 Guide covers the various FFL types, local, state and federal requirements, ATF interviews and inspections, and common reasons home-based applications are denied, along with the Special Occupational Tax status needed to deal in NFA items such as suppressors and machine guns.

By 2011 the guide had been featured by the NRA’s American Rifleman and in publications such as Guns and Ammo, Gun Digest and Shotgun News, and the site reported tens of thousands of active members. That November, Jupiter Entertainment, producers of Sons of Guns, chose Maddox as talent lead for a proposed firearms TV project. Maddox’s own home-based FFL grew into Silencer Central, a nationwide suppressor dealer, manufacturer and wholesaler he leads as CEO. In February 2023 he joined the board of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation. For gun owners considering a part-time or home-based dealership, FFL123 remains one of the longest-running resources focused on the licensing process.
