About Collector Grade Publications

Collector Grade Publications is a Canadian publisher of in-depth reference books on modern military small arms, founded in 1979 by Toronto-born author and editor R. Blake Stevens. Its first title, North American FALs, grew out of Stevens’ research on Canada’s C1 service rifle, and the company went on to produce detailed histories of the FAL family, the M14, the M16, the Browning High Power, the Browning machine guns and the German MP43/MP44, among many others. Titles such as The Black Rifle, US Rifle M14 and Sturmgewehr! have become standard references for collectors, researchers and machine gun owners.

Collector Grade books are known for chronological layouts built from archival documents and factory records, heavy illustration, sewn bindings and hardcover library-quality construction. Over nearly forty years Stevens edited and produced more than sixty titles, twelve of which he wrote or co-wrote, often working with outside authors such as the late Smithsonian military historian Dr. Edward C. Ezell. Stevens died in April 2018 at age 80. For gun owners and 2A advocates, the catalog remains one of the most thorough documentary records of how modern service rifles and machine guns were designed, adopted and used.
