About Charlie Cook
Charlie Cook is a firearms instructor, writer and podcaster, best known as the creator and host of Riding Shotgun With Charlie. A lifelong musician who taught instrumental music for more than 20 years, Cook brought a teacher’s approach to firearms education after becoming an instructor. His podcast began in 2017 and describes its goal as entertaining and educating people who are into firearms. Conversations often drift into music and politics as well. Cook also writes about firearms and gun rights, and his work has appeared on AmmoLand.
Riding Shotgun With Charlie is built on long-form interviews recorded around the country, often at industry and advocacy events. Guests include attorneys, instructors, range and gun store owners, competitive shooters, adaptive shooters and leaders of gun rights organizations. Recent episodes have covered Massachusetts gun law changes under Chapter 135, Second Amendment litigation, NRA programs such as America’s Rifle Challenge, and adaptive shooting for people with disabilities. As of October 2026 the show was still releasing new episodes about twice a month, with numbered episodes past 260. That makes it one of the longer-running independent interview shows in the gun rights community.
