About Dave Workman

Dave Workman is a veteran firearms journalist and Second Amendment author based in Washington State. A former editor of the Snoqualmie Valley Record newspaper, he became senior editor of Gun Week and later of TheGunMag.com, the news publication of the Second Amendment Foundation, and he serves as communications director for the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. He is also a contributing editor for GUNS Magazine and American Handgunner, where he writes the “2A Defense” and “Insider Online” columns, and he is a former member of the NRA Board of Directors.

Workman’s work centers on armed self-defense and the legal and political fights over the right to keep and bear arms. In 2008 he published America Fights Back: Armed Self-Defense in a Violent Age, a 215-page hardcover produced with Alan Gottlieb as editor and publisher. The project grew out of an October 2006 case in Saucier, Mississippi, in which a homeowner fired back at an intruder, and it collected accounts of ordinary citizens who used firearms to defend themselves. For readers following court cases and legislation, his reporting remains a steady source of news from the gun rights side.
