About Erich Pratt
Erich Pratt is a longtime leader of Gun Owners of America (GOA), the national gun rights organization known for its no-compromise approach to the Second Amendment. He has worked in gun politics for more than three decades, holding federal and state director roles and serving as GOA’s communications director before rising to senior leadership; GOA now lists him as senior vice president. He is also the author of Bearing Arms: Our Rights, Our Duties & Our Freedoms.
GOA was founded on November 9, 1976, by California State Senator H. L. Richardson as a national spin-off of Gun Owners of California, and it is headquartered in Springfield, Virginia. The group claims more than 2 million members and supporters. It has built its reputation on aggressive lobbying and grassroots alerts, including campaigns behind the 2006 Vitter amendment, which barred federal funds from being used to confiscate lawfully owned firearms during emergencies, and the 2007 Pence amendment.
