About NRA Adaptive Shooting
NRA Adaptive Shooting is the National Rifle Association’s program for bringing people with disabilities into the shooting sports. It runs within the NRA’s Education and Training Division and is described by the NRA as its flagship program for people with disabilities. In December 2015, Shooting Sports USA reported a rejuvenation of the program under a new national manager, with plans to introduce wheelchair users to shotgun sports, expand opportunities on high school and college trap and skeet teams, and pilot the approach with the Attica Consolidated School System in Indiana.
The program matters because adaptive equipment and accessible facilities are often the deciding factor in whether a disabled shooter, hunter or injured veteran can take part. In October 2019, the NRA Adaptive Shooting Programs and Business Alliance launched the Adaptive Product Providers database, which links shooters to companies offering services, gear and training, from magazine-loading aids to all-terrain wheelchairs for hunters. National manager Dr. Joe Logar called it a “one-stop resource.” The NRA cited U.S. Census figures showing that 74 million Americans identify as disabled.
