About Be Adaptive Equipment
Be Adaptive Equipment, LLC is a Columbia City, Indiana, company that designs and builds adaptive equipment so that people with limited or no use of their arms and hands can hunt, shoot and take part in other outdoor sports. Its work grew out of a 2001 partnership between Brian Kyler and Eric Dirig, who wanted a better shooting device for wheelchair users. The result was the High-Quad wheelchair gun mount, a 12-volt, battery-powered platform that attaches to the frame of a wheelchair and offers an adjustable-height rest so the shooter can aim and fire independently.
The company’s line also includes a finger control trigger device for shooters with fine motor, neuromuscular or upper-limb limitations, and two mouth-activated trigger mechanisms: the suction-powered TM 100 and the bite-down BT 100. The equipment is listed as a supplier resource by AgrAbility, a USDA-supported program that helps farmers and ranchers with disabilities. In 2019, International Sportsman highlighted the company for helping disabled sportsmen return to hunting, fishing and archery. For the shooting community, Be Adaptive is an example of how equipment design keeps the right to keep and bear arms practical for people with serious physical disabilities.
