About Chris Costa

Chris Costa is a firearms instructor and the founder of Costa Ludus, a tactical training and development company whose name comes from the Latin word for a gladiator training school. Before entering the commercial training world, he spent 12 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, including counter-drug operations and special missions in Europe, the Middle East and South America, followed by seven years with Applied Marine Technologies on assignment to the Department of Homeland Security’s Risk Management Division.

Costa became widely known as an instructor and later president of Magpul Dynamics, the training arm that helped popularize modern carbine and pistol technique through its instructional video series in the late 2000s. On November 7, 2011, Magpul announced he would leave in early 2012 to start his own company, and Costa Ludus followed. He has taught civilians, law enforcement and special operations units, and he remains a recognizable figure in the training community, known for both his teaching and his distinctive personal style.
