About Massachusetts Women Gun Owners

Massachusetts Women Gun Owners (MWGO) is a women-focused community that helps Massachusetts women build confidence with firearms, learn safe handling, and find a stronger voice in the firearms community. Its co-founders include activist Lakasha Robbins, who has also served as a board member of the Gun Owners’ Action League (GOAL), the state’s NRA affiliate, and as a delegate for The D.C. Project, which connects women gun owners with state and federal lawmakers. A February 2020 report in This Week in Worcester put the group’s founding at 2016 and its membership at nearly 900.

MWGO matters because Massachusetts has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, and new gun owners there face a complex licensing process. The group offers a welcoming place for women to get advice, education and recommendations, and it works alongside GOAL. Its annual Concealed Carry Fashion Show shows women practical ways to carry, with ticket proceeds donated to GOAL for firearms education. In April 2020, MWGO and The D.C. Project sent a letter to Lt. Governor Karyn Polito asking for help with Second Amendment roadblocks in the state, an effort Robbins discussed on Tom Gresham’s Gun Talk Radio.
