About Barnes Bullets
Barnes Bullets is an American bullet and ammunition maker founded in 1932 by Fred Barnes and based today in Mona, Utah. It grew from a small custom operation into one of the best-known names among hunters and handloaders, and it is most closely associated with lead-free, all-copper hunting bullets. Its X Bullet and Triple-Shock X (TSX) designs are recognized worldwide and helped make monolithic copper bullets a mainstream choice for big-game hunting.
That lead-free focus makes Barnes especially relevant to hunters in places where lead ammunition is restricted and to shooters who want bullets that hold together on large game. Barnes has changed hands several times. It became part of the Remington family of companies, and when Remington Outdoor Company went through bankruptcy in 2020, Sierra Bullets of Sedalia, Missouri, then a subsidiary of Clarus Corporation, was selected as the buyer of the Barnes business. On February 29, 2024, Clarus completed the sale of its Precision Sport segment, made up of Sierra and Barnes, to Bullseye Acquisitions, an affiliate of JDH Capital Company, for about $175 million, keeping the two bullet makers together under new ownership.
