About Kim Rhode
Kim Rhode is an American shotgun shooter from Whittier, California, and one of the most decorated athletes in Olympic shooting history. She won her first Olympic gold medal in double trap at the 1996 Atlanta Games as a teenager, then added medals at each of the next five Summer Olympics, switching to skeet after double trap was dropped for women. Her skeet gold at London 2012 came with an Olympic record score of 99, tying the world record, and her bronze at Rio 2016 made her the first woman to medal in six consecutive Olympic Games and the first Olympian to win a medal on five continents. She studied at Cal Poly Pomona, and on the ISSF World Cup circuit she has collected 19 gold, 7 silver and 8 bronze medals.
Rhode is also known to gun owners as a plaintiff in the legal challenge to California’s background-check requirement for ammunition purchases. In July 2025 a Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals panel ruled in her favor, upholding a lower-court decision that struck down the requirement as a violation of Second Amendment rights. Her career has made her a prominent ambassador for the shooting sports and for lawful firearms ownership.
