  – to determine statistics for national comparisons:
  – murder
  – non-negligent manslaughter
  – forcible rape
  – burglary
  – aggravated assault
  – larceny
  – motor vehicle theft
• 1930 – 1st report = 400 cities in 43 states
  – covering 20 million (20% of U.S. population)
• 1934 – Uniform Crime Report
  – by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP)
• 1979 – arson was added
• 1984 – NIBRS
• 2003 – data compiled from more than 16,000 agencies
  – 93 percent of the population in 46 states and D.C.
• 2021 – Projected shift to NIBRS countrywide
